Feb 11, 2011·I currently do all my washing by hand with a biological wash powder bought from Lidl. It works well and is good at removing stains from underclothes at temperatures around 35-40 degrees C. I had presumed that the enzymes in the wash powder would break down the proteins in the cell walls of bacteria, thus effectively sterilising the washed items.
